Carolyn McDonald, "Group Therapy"

20" x 16"
oil on canvas
NFS
I love how the sun is so bright at the beach.  This is a scene from several years ago.
I like sitting under the umbrella and taking photos of other people.

the lineup

This is painted on a 2 foot by 3 foot panel. I did not paint itin honor of New Years day. Coincidence that I post it today. I took this photo in Charleston in the Fall. I liked the way the light was shining through the tops of the bottles and plastic cups.
Happy New Year!!

Carolyn McDonald, "Sun Bathing"

8" x 8"
oil on panel
$200 + shipping
One of my favorite subjects.  The sunlight was very bright and the varied colors were
very subtle inside the egg shell.  The transparency of the egg yolk was interesting
to observe.  I had a lot of fun doing this piece.

APPLES-TWO UP, ONE DOWN BY ELIZABETH BLAYLOCK

10 X 8 OIL ON STRETCHED CANVAS
$245 plus s/h
No matter how many times I paint red apples, they are always a challenge. I thought this would be a really quick painting......wrong. I spent part of yesterday and most of today on this painting, signed it and then worked another hour. All done now!
All of you who have been wanting to take one of my classes, there's still a couple of openings for the January 10, 11 and 12 workshop. Call the Foley Performing Art Center at

prime time

Felt like painting something warm today. The weather is so cold here in Alabama and much colder in the Eastern US. This painting is very large for me. Painted it on a 24 x 36" panel. I took the photo of this couple in Hilton Head, SC when I was taking Karin Jurick's workshop.

ELIZABETH BLAYLOCK PAINTS A BLACK CAPPED CHICADEE

WAITING FOR WHAT THE DAY BRINGS
6 X 6 OIL ON PANEL
$100 plus s/h
I have painted this little bird before and each time he has a bit of a different look. This painting is a little warmer in tone and a bit softer. I used it as a warm up painting to get back in the swing of things after the holidays. Wow, is the house ever quiet after having family visiting this week.

This is one of my favorite pieces depicting the emotional

Carolyn McDonald, "Don't be Cross"

I'm branching out and trying new things.  Reflections are not
easy to do. Neither is transparent glass.  I'll keep working.

A friend of "Red Robin"

APPLES BY ELIZABETH BLAYLOCK

ON A ROLL
5 x 7 OIL ON PANEL
$100 plus s/h
Apples are always fun to do. We think of them as just red or green, but when you really look hard at them you see so many beautiful colors. The actual painting is a lot richer looking than the image on my monitor. Something about photographing reds again. They are transparent and I think the camera just can't see it like our eyes can. Carolyn McDonald, "Am I a Tomato?" 8"x8"

SOLD
I enjoy the smell of tomatoes.  When I was a child, I would take a salt shaker and wash cloth into our garden and sit in the shade of the tomato plants while I ate tomatoes to my hearts content.  The aroma of fresh tomatoes still reminds me of those special times.

Carolyn McDonald "Salt and Light" 8"x8"

($200 + s/h)
I enjoy connecting my work with my faith and, in a way,  to give thanks to the One who has given me such a great passion for painting.  The light was so strong on this particular Saturday morning and the salt really stood out.  I also liked the slight reflection on our antique kitchen table. The small chrome band around the pepper was a small challenge, but finally worked.

FLORAL BY ELIZABETH BLAYLOCK

RED DAISIES AND APPLES
14 X 11 OIL ON STRETCHED CANVAS
$375 plus s/h
This warm floral still life was a joy to do although I had to work hard to make it look simple... constantly softening edges and re-establishing the drawing. I took this photo outside in sunlight. The photo I took in the shade made it look like an entirely different, cool painting. Reds are hard to photograph accurately.

ELIZABETH BLAYLOCK PAINTING OF BOVINE BEAUTIES

12 X 12 OIL ON STRETCHED CANVAS
$325 plus s/h
This weekend I took a workshop with a great artist, WD Thompson. He does lovely glowing oils with a lot of palette knife. You can see his work at wdthompsonart.com. I felt that I was in a bit of a rut with my painting and a workshop with an artist whose work I admired just might be the fix. Did I ever have fun loosening up and playing with the palette knife. I did this impressionistic painting of cows yesterday and I think it has a pleasing freshness.
